South Main Baptist Church
will attempt to break a Guinness World
Record for the Longest Chain of Shoes. The current record is 19,856 shoes that stretch out 18,992
feet. South Main is collecting the shoes for Buckner International’s Shoes for
Orphans Souls. This program has provided over 1.8 million new pairs of shoes to
orphaned children all over the world over the past 10 years. Shoes are shipped to various locations
including Guatemala, Peru, and Kenya.
On Thursday, August 19, 2010, a "drive-through drop-off" will be available at South Main Baptist Church.
On Saturday, August 21, at 9am, the shoe drive will culminate in a final celebration called "Sole Chain". Shoes will be laid out into a pattern on the parking lot at South Main Baptist Church, the record will be deemed "officially broken" and then shoes will be packed up and loaded into trucks for shipment to orphans.
South Main welcomes the Houston community to join with them in breaking a Guinness World Record by giving over 19,856 shoes.
